The Savant In Me, Songs From My Childhood That I Could Just Play…

Some days all I want is a few hours to myself to play, “the keys to my happiness.” This is my new pet name for my keyboard. I can’t tell you the enjoyment I get out of just playing. I could get lost for hours and sometimes I do! It is so relaxing to just sit and play the piano in my little bedroom/ studio. My little Mom cave…

I have included some SoundCloud tracks of just my instrumental acoustic songs. They are covers of songs I grew up with. One is a compilation of songs from the 70’s. Derrick and the Dominos, Layla, Thunderclap Newman’s
Something In The Air, and a Pink Floyd song from Dark Side Of The Moon.https://soundcloud.com/tyna-j-phipps/montage-from-the-70s-arranged.

Us and Them holds a special place in my heart. My Mom absolutely loved this song. She was so impressed that I learned this. She would ask me to play it for her. She always wanted me to play this for people. I think I was 15 when I learned this.https://soundcloud.com/tyna-j-phipps/us-and-them-written-by-pink

Lastly, this still is one of my favorite songs to play, Fool’s Overture. This was a very complex song to play. I believe I learned this also at about 15. I think this was rather a savant like experience…wasn’t a lot of learning involved, I Fool’s Overturejust could play it.https://soundcloud.com/tyna-j-phipps/fools-overture-written-by-120140719-085123-31883438.jpg

As I mentioned before, I have been playing the piano since I was four. One of my early childhood memories is the look of almost terror on my Mom’s face. At age four I began playing a song that my sister who was twelve had been practicing. My Mom came into the room to compliment my sister and instead found me at the keys. Scared the heck out of her and me too! I thought something was wrong with me!

* I recently researched savantism…Found out it is a form of autism…this might explain some of my challenges/ deficits in school. I had a heck of a hard time with what they called “New” math. I have math phobia to this day! All kidding aside, I believe this was my learning issue as a kid. I wish I had known this!

I've been a stay at home Mom for many years...Have earned a PhD in life experience. My oldest is 30 and my youngest is 13. On a quest to see all that I can be now. I am a musician, singer/ songwriter. In the process of trying to become marketable. Would love to make money doing what I love! I love to do many domestic things also. Nothing I do seems to be profitable. Guess I am at a point in life that I would like to be compensated . My whole life I have given freely. Now, show me my money making niche. Still in the process of figuring that out.
